Munich welcomes the world every September, then gets back to everyday life. And everyday life here is good at the small things: a butcher who still makes Weißwurst to be eaten before noon, a Wirtshaus with a Stammtisch reserved for the same regulars for decades, a bike shop that fixes a puncture while you wait.
Schwabing and Maxvorstadt have the university and the museums, Glockenbachviertel and Haidhausen the bars and boutiques, while Sendling, Giesing and Neuhausen have the kind of neighbourhood loyalty that keeps a good business going for generations. Visitors rarely see most of it. Residents depend on it every week, and that everyday city is what this guide is about.
What MunichVibes does
MunichVibes exists to point you towards those businesses, independently and with an editor's eye. We publish rankings across fifteen fields: food and drink, shopping, culture, hotels, beauty, health, education, sport, cars, home and renovations, legal and financial services, pets and technology. Each list focuses on one kind of business, so an electrician is measured against electricians and a beer garden against beer gardens.
How the guide is made
Our editors research every category across the city, from the Altstadt to the outer districts. We look for businesses that have kept a strong reputation over time, make sure addresses and phone numbers are up to date, and publish only the strongest names in each field.
Each ranking is revisited regularly, so closures disappear and newcomers who have proved themselves can join. Corrections sent in by readers are checked and applied in between.
Who reads us, and a word for owners
Our readers include residents hunting for a better dentist, newcomers who have just signed a lease in Neuhausen and need a plumber, international families comparing schools, and visitors who want more than the Hofbräuhaus.
