How MunichVibes chooses the best of Munich
How MunichVibes editors build every Munich ranking: five steps covering research across 25 districts, reputation, verification, selection and updates.
Munich is a city of strong opinions about where to eat, drink and shop, and residents are rarely shy about sharing them. Our job is to turn that local knowledge into rankings you can rely on, whether you are choosing a beer garden for a summer evening or a lawyer for a tenancy dispute. Every MunichVibes list follows the same five steps.
From Schwabing to Sendling: the long list
We begin by identifying every business that offers the service in question across all 25 city districts, from the Altstadt and Maxvorstadt to Pasing, Trudering and Milbertshofen. The edges of the city get the same scrutiny as the old town, because many of Munich's most trusted craftspeople and practices work far from Marienplatz.
What customers keep coming back for
A business earns its place through the standing it has built with customers over time. We look for consistency and for a reputation that has lasted through many seasons, and we stay sceptical of places whose fame rests on a single busy summer, a viral moment or a passing trend.
Is it still there?
Leases change hands quickly in Munich. Before a business is listed, we check that it is open, that its address and phone number are correct and that people living in Munich can realistically get to it and rely on it. Closed, moved and duplicate entries are removed.
A fair comparison
Each ranking sets a business only against others in the same trade, so a traditional Wirtshaus never competes with a sushi counter and a family lawyer never competes with a tax adviser. From each field we keep only the clear standouts. Some lists end up short, and that is entirely intentional.
A list is never finished
Rankings are revisited at regular intervals and whenever readers report a change. Opening hours are updated, closures removed and promising newcomers considered once they have earned a following of their own. A good list should feel as current in January as it did in July.
